Known as the IKA/Culinary Olympics, the International Culinary Art Exhibition is the largest international professional competition for chefs, cooks and pastry chefs. The IKA/Culinary Olympics premiered in 1900 in Frankfurt am Main. Since then, every four years, national teams, youth national teams, regional teams and caterers compete to be Olympic champions in their discipline. Since the first event in 1900, the attraction of the event is undiminished.
Three Romanian teams participated in the contest and achieved excellent results: gold, silver and bronze medals. The three regional teams were: Belvedere Brașov, Delice and Casa Boierului din Deal.
Team Belvedere Brașov (Lady Chef Cornelia Ghișoi, Ioan Florescu, Paul Holhoș, Simona Preda, Toma Gabriela and Daniel Buzea) won first prize, the very first gold medal won by Romanians at Culinary Olympics. They also got the silver medal at the Pastry category. Team Delice (Carmela Dragomir, Hriapca Irina, Petronela Ciubotaru, Liviu Preda and Alexandru Chitic) won bronze medal. Team Casa Boierului din Deal (Lungu Cerasela, Cicean Gabor, Kenan İnci, Mocanu Laura and Maxim Vera) was the second runner up, bronze medal at the Pastry category and recognition at the Culinary Art category.
Besides Mrs. Cornelia Ghișoi, Lady Chef of Romania and Mrs. Cerasela Lungu, Master of Culinary Arts, another trainer of PanGastRo Association, Association of Specialists in the Romanian Baking and Food Service Industry, Mr. Kovács János, Master Pastry Chef, has won a gold and a silver medal with two artistic pieces made of isomalt.
